Luckily, Amsterdam hosts a lot of hotels, from cheap and basic to luxurious and expensive.
If you are living in Amsterdam (or The Netherlands), there is not really a need for a hotel or appartment, but if you are coming from abroad you really want a bed to prepare yourself for the run, and for the day after.
You will probably fly-in at Schiphol Airport and pick up your registration-number and ID on Saturday, the day before the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.
Getting from Schiphol Airport to the TCS Amsterdam Marathon
From Schiphol Airport it’s just 1 trainstop and a 7 minute ride to the Amsterdam South Railway Station. From here it’s about a 10 minute walk to the Olympic Stadium-area where the Start/Finish is of the Amsterdam Marathon and where you pick up your registration in the indoor sportshall: ‘Sporthallen Zuid’.
Alternatively you can take the Schiphol Express bus 197. This bus takes you in about 20 minutes from Schiphol Airport to a busstop exactly in front of the Olympic Stadium.
In total travel time bus or train, take you about the same amount of time and costs. The only small disadvantage of bus 197 is the fact that it’s most of the time crowded since this bus runs eventually to the city centre where all the musea are. Hence; a lot of tourists!
Public transport during the TCS Amsterdam Marathon
You don’t have to worry about limited services of public transport during the Amsterdam Marathon. Public transport in Amsterdam is before, during and after the Amsterdam Marathon NOT affected.
Of course; it may be more crowded, especially in services which run to the Olympic Stadium, where the start and the finish of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon is.

As we already mentioned; there are a lot of good hotels available during the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in October, however you need to book in advance to secure a room.
There are two hotels available DIRECTLY next to the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. And in a distance of about 15 minutes walking, you also find several hotels in the area around the street ‘Stadionweg’ and Railway Station Amsterdam South.
Other hotels in Amsterdam are also listed here below, but those hotels are located at a distance of more than 15 minutes walking and you need to use public transport to get to the start/finish of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.
